Its That Time of year again. The ping of aluminum bats, dreams of Omaha. It’s college baseball time!
This year promises to be a great one with the growing popularity of a once underground sport. With the NHL strike last year ESPN finally giving the world NCAA baseball on a national stage people started to take notice. After losing the MLB contract EA released one of the best baseball games in a while with MVP 2006: NCAA Baseball. All of this has added to the growing excitement over the road to 2006 Omaha.
The Big 12 looks to once again be one of those leading the charge. Four teams, Texas, Nebraska, Missouri, and Baylor, all have legitimate shots at playing at Rosenblatt in June. Texas is predicted by many to have the inside road to the Title in ’06 and playing in the furiously strong Big 12 can do nothing but help their chances come post season time.
The Big 12 also has its fair share of up and comers with Oklahoma and Texas A&M leading the way. Either of these teams could make a large splash in league play but will have to overcome a lot to make any major noise.
Of course along with the good comes the bad. Even though Kansas State is on the rise they are still not a Big 12 tournament caliber team. Along with the Wildcats the Texas Tech Red Raiders look to carry up the rear after being decimated by the draft and Seniors leaving.
All in all it looks to be a fun season and possibly one for the ages. Here are the previews for each team in order of expected finish.
