2008 Season Projection for Texas A&M

The Aggies are facing the toughest schedule in their history. If Texas A&M football coach Mike Sherman can pick up the pieces and field a reasonable solid team, what should Aggie fans expect?

Let’s examine the schedule team by team and try to project the season’s result.

Arkansas State – The Red Wolves in 2007 finished 5th in the Sun Belt Conference with a 5-7 record (3-4 conference). The game should be a laugher, but the Aggies will be in the tune up phase. Count it as a win.

New Mexico– One thing stands out in the Lobo’s 2007 season: they lost to TCU 37-0. This is a so-so school in a weak conference. Count this as a win.

Miami – One thing glaringly clear in the 2007 loss was that Miami’s team was vastly faster. The Hurricanes were down last year, but this is a school that does not tolerate losers. Phil Steele predicted the Canes to be one of 2008’s surprise teams. This will be the Aggies’ first loss.

Army – One poll rated Army at 111th. This is a game that polls don’t’ count. Aggies will bin.

Oklahoma State – This game will be close. The Cowboys field a defense more porous than A&M. It should be a toss up. Count it as a loss.

Kansas State – This is an unpredictable team. They beat Texas two straight years. The Aggies should win at home.

Texas Tech – Sherman said he plans to play freshmen in the defensive backfield. This is where the inexperience will show. Red Raiders win.

Iowa State – Most polls show the Cyclones are one of two teams ranked lower than the Aggies in the Big 12. Count this as a win.

Colorado – Anything can happen in Boulder. This is one of those games that some people think the Aggies will win. Count this as a loss.

Oklahoma – The Aggies are not in the Sooners’ class. Count this as a loss.

Baylor – Art Briles should have his Bear offense tuned up. It won’t be enough. The Aggies win.

Texas – The Longhorns are tired of losing to the Aggies. After the 2007 loss, Texas Coach Mack Brown dropped his Dr. Jekyll persona and let his dark Mr. Hyde side emerge. The result: Horns won a bowl game. This year expect Mack’s dark side to come out before the game. Count this as a loss.

2008 Texas A&M Football Prediction: 6-6

If the Aggies can play it close against Texas, Tech, and Oklahoma count this season as a successful season. Three blowouts against these three rivals will indicate that Sherman’s tenure will be rocky. Aggies are no longer willing to tolerate lame excuses in lieu of victories.
