Texas A&m wins in second round of Padre Island InvitationalAggies beat Seahawks
The Texas A&M Aggies Tuesday night advanced to the third round of the Padre Island Invitational by beating North Carolina-Wilmington, 84-65. Sophomore forward Chinemelu Elonu scored 18 points to lead the Aggies in the winning cause. He shot 8 of 9. Adding 13 points each were guards B.J. Holmes and Derrick Roland. Holmes also got three assists. Forward Nathan Walkup grabbed 13 rebounds.
Aggie Coach Mark Turgeon was pleased with the performance. “ I was pleased … that we were not selfish. We played 10 to 12 minutes in the second half of good defense. They played really small. Junior (Elonu) was able to rebound well and played very good on defense,” he told a post-game news conference.
The Aggies held the Seahawks well below their 97-point season average. The Aggies will play Tulsa on Friday. Coach Turgeon is 29-11 at A&M. That is the best start for a coach in Big 12 history.
