Sooners top the Aggies
The final score was closer then what OU wanted, but they will take the win. Oklahoma came in the game as number 6 in the nation. The Sooners won the game 69-63. Oklahoma held off a late rally. They led from start to finish. OU snapped an 11 game home winning streak for the Aggies. Jeff Capal was not happy with the Sooners effort, but he will always take a win on the road against a big 12 team. This raises Oklahoma’s record to 17-1 and a 3-0 conference record. Texas A&M’s fell to 15-3 and 1-2 in the conference.
There was a surprising high scorer for the Sooners. The 6-3 guard, Austin Johnson, led the team with 19 points. Blake Griffin had foul trouble most of the game and was forced to sit most of the game. He only had 16 points and 6 rebounds. Blake Griffin is probably going to be the 1st draft pick in the NBA. He averages the most rebounds in the NCAA with 13.8 RPG. Many coaches fear this 6-10 player. He is a tremendous athlete and is very versatile. Josh Carter had a good game for the Aggies. He had 17 points and led them in scoring. He sparked the late rally with multiple shots late in the game. Carter has been there go-to-guy this whole year. He is a 6-7 forward who can also play the SF position too. He was the key to the game and he came to play. All that Texas A&M needed was one more player to show up and make a couple more shots and they would have had a good chance of winning this game.
Jeff Capel did a good job of mixing up his man to man defense and the 1-3-1 zone. He just put the 1-3-1 zone in before the Kansas State game and it seamed to work. Many people are predicting him to be named the coach of the year. He will be a very good candidate if the Sooners continue to win like this. He is one of greatest young coaches in the NCAA.
