Texas A&M vs. Texas Preview

Texas A&M head football coach Mike Sherman hinted this week that the Aggies may have achieved their goals this year. That leaves fans wondering if the beleaguered head coach has little hopes his lowly Aggies can topple Texas.

Game time is 7 p.m. CT on ESPN HD. The venue will be Kyle Field in College Station.

The Longhorns (11-0, 5-0 Big 12) are second in the USA-Today poll, third in the AP, and third in the BCS. The Las Vegas odds makers give the Longhorns a 22-point edge. A 10-point victory may be regarded as a net loss to the Horns. Longhorn coach Mack Brown may need to pile on some style points to impress pollsters.

The Aggies (6-5, 4-3 Big 12) fortunes have been up and down all year. Earlier this year, A&M came off of a 64-14 drubbing by Kansas State to defeat then ranked Texas Tech, 52-30. Two weeks ago, Oklahoma beat the Aggies 62-10. Last week, the Aggies beat the Baylor Bears, 38-3.

"These kids are about ready to give me a heart attack," Sherman said. "One week it's one thing; one week it's something else,” Sherman told reporters.

Further, the Aggies are 6-0 in non-televised games. They are 0-5 in televised games. This game will be televised on ESPN HD. There so much Karma going against the Aggies, no wonder that Sherman let it be known that the Aggie have achieved their goals this year.

The Aggies are bowl eligible, but being bowl eligible may not mean they will get into a bowl game. If Kansas wins this weekend the Big 12 would have produced one too many bowl-eligible teams. Still the Aggies most likely will get an invitation from either the Independence Bowl or the Texas Bowl.

The Aggies hold one edge. They are 2-1 against the Horns in the past three games. In their last meeting in Austin, the Longhorns won 49-9. Longhorn quarterback Colt McCoy is 2-1 against the Aggies. This will be his last chance to even the score.

The game will be broadcast on Sirius Satellite Radio channel 122 and on the Aggie Radio Sports Network.
