Texas A&M vs. Alabama Birmingham Preview

The Texas A&M Aggies hopes to make it three wins Saturday when they meet the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

The game begins 6 p.m. CDT at Kyle Field. There will be no television.

The Aggies will hope that their potent passing attack won’t be hindered by the loss of tight end Jeff Fuller . The sophomore standout broke his leg late in the first half of the Utah State game. He is expected to be out for a while.

"It looks like Jeff (Fuller) has a cracked fibula, which is the non-weight-bearing bone. That usually will take anywhere from four to six weeks. My personal opinion is it takes one to three weeks, but the doctors don't agree with me and I don't think the bone does either. But we'll see. Everyone heals at a different speed. We're going to do everything we can in our power to get Jeff back as soon as possible,” head football coach Mike Sherman said.

Sherman expects that junior wide receiver Terrance McCoy and true freshman tight end Brandal Jackson will fill Fuller’s shoes. Fuller (15-136-1) leads the team in receptions.

Freshman wide receiver Uzoma Nwachukwy (pronounced WATCH-a-coo), got four touchdowns on four touches. Teammates call him EZ, but Sherman told a press conference that he was going to learn to pronounce his name.

Sherman may need to find help in the running game. Freshman running back Christine Michael was limping this week. “There’s a chance he will be back,” Sherman said. Michael rushed for 94 yards. He leads all rushers with 187 yards.

Sherman was concerned about his offensive line which he believes still has a few problems.

"Yeah, we're still trying to find our identity with that group (offensive line). They both did some very positive things at times, and there were other things we struggled with at times as a group. Once we got out of that first quarter...it seems like once we get into the rhythm of the game our run game starts to take hold around the second and third quarter. We were running the ball fairly effectively,” Sherman said.

UAB comes in with two straight losses. Sherman believes they will be hungry. The Aggies need this game to gain confidence before they have their first true test in two weeks against University Arkansas at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.

The UAB game will be broadcast on the Aggies radio network and on Sirius Satellite radio, channel 91.
